The sloping site with views over Rangitoto Island and Hauraki Gulf provided the opportunity to develop two free-standing dwellings on compact sites. Careful design consideration of the retaining wall allowed deep excavation near the boundary. Use of steel portal frames accomplished the proposed split level and open plan design.
